Julie Pavlock

St. Ignatius, MT

Located along Foothill Road at the base of the Mission Mountains, Foothill Farm has been in operation since 2005 and certified organic since 2008. The farm produces grass-fed beef, fresh vegetables, herbs, fruit, and seed.

With 25 years of farming experience, Julie has been saving seed since the beginning, and began selling garlic seed in 2009. Garlic remains a favorite crop – it has many diverse uses both culinarily and medicinally, grows beautifully in Montana’s climate, and keeps its secrets underground until harvest.

Foothill Farm is known for its diversity and for integrating livestock and draft horse power into production. Growing seed, for Julie, represents both independence from corporate systems and a celebration of nature’s full life cycle. That appreciation began early, when a friend of her great-grandmother shared hand-saved garden seed – a small gift that sparked a lifelong fascination.

When the fields rest, Julie spends time in the mountains skiing and hiking, crafting, dancing, and hanging out with family. On the farm, she tunes into farming podcasts like Real Organic and Seed Growers, story-driven shows like The Memory Palace, and the crew puts on a mix of folk, rock, bluegrass, and reggae while cleaning and packing seed.
