Seeds for Montana and Beyond

The Triple Divide Organic Seeds Coop offers packeted seed from our online site and in stores around Montana. Our mission is to develop plant varieties that grow well in Montana and other northern latitudes. Our coop members are committed to improving and adapting open-pollinated, locally resilient seeds crops using organic practices. We believe that in order to build a secure local and regional food and farm system we need to return ownership of seed to our farmers and gardeners.

January 2026 News

— Our catalog is mostly up to date, but we still have a few new varieties to add. Look for heirloom grains, a new-to-the-world purple carrot, and some cool new flowers still to come.  Thank you for your orders and interest!
Remember when you are ordering on the website, the option for  LOCAL PICKUP  means coming to pick up your order in Ronan, MT at our packing location.
Our site is going through some changes, and we are still working out the kinks. Please bear with us as we figure it out. The store is working so please explore our catalog!

Glacier Rose shallots, on the drying rack at Coyote Smile Farm this fall.

These beauties are Glacier Rose Shallots, a variety developed by our grower Judy Owsowitz at Terrapin Farm in Whitefish, MT.  We have new crops of seed for both Ed’s Red and Glacier Rose, germinating at north of 90%.
We’d like to share our growers’ expertise on how to start, transplant, tend, harvest, and cure really great shallots. Look for some posts about that, and more about shallots as we

dig into this particular allium.
There are some great reasons to grow them at home. For starters, you probably won’t find these large delicious varieties at your local grocery store. And whatever type you find, they will be expensive.  They store for forever, even until the next crop is ready the following year, by far the longest storing allium. And did I mention they are delicious? Milder than onions, you can saute them and they will add to almost anything.

When to start your shallot seed at home–third or fourth week of February.  Order some seed now!
