A quick growing, colorful mix of round red (pink) purple and white radishes that is suitable for both fall and spring planting. This is a great, early maturing cool weather crop that is fun for kids and fairly foolproof for first-time gardeners. Quick to germinate and quick to bulb, and they will thrive in containers as well as in the ground. For a continuous crop, re-seed every 2 weeks through early July (when the summer heat may stunt their growth) and begin again in early fall. Radishes are not heat tolerant, but are able to withstand a mild frost.
The white radish, “Hailstone” is a turn of the century heirloom dating back to the early 1900’s. These snow white radishes are crisp and juicy with a sweet, mildly spicy flavor. They grow about to the size of a golf ball. They add great color contrast to salads and will maintain their firm texture when stir-fried.
Original seed source: Baker Creek Heirloom Seed.
“Hailstone” is grown by Greenblade Farm in St. Ignatius, MT. Certified Organic. Raphanus sativus.
